According to ‘Gosti Guru Amardas Ji’ (time of composition 1683 CE) written by Hari Ji, one day Guru Amardas Sahib was in Goindwal Sahib (Panjab). Some ‘lovers of the Divine’ visited him. They humbly asked the Guru, “Some say that the days are the sons of Narad. Some say that they are planets. Please tell us, what are they? In response to this question, the Guru revealed this composition.

According to Giani Kirpal Singh, some Sikhs requested Guru Amardas Sahib to reveal a composition on the seven days of the week, by reading which, these days may become fruitful. Accepting this request, the Guru revealed this composition.

According to Mahant Sadhu Singh, when Guru Amardas Sahib went to Kurukshetra, Pandit Sahu Ram, Pandit Ram Chand, and the various followers of the six schools of Hindu philosophy gathered and met him. The Guru then revealed this composition to them.

According to Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, some Sikhs asked the Guru, “Many people, influenced by superstitions, believe that certain tasks should be done on particular days, and certain tasks should not be done on others. Kindly guide us, how should we think about the days? The Guru responded, “O Gursikhs!

From all these narratives, it is evident that Guru Amardas Sahib revealed this composition to free people from existing superstitions and connect them with the Divine. However, these references shed no light on:
- When was this composition revealed?
- Where was this composition revealed? According to ‘Gosti Guru Amardas Ji’ written by Hari Ji, this composition was revealed at Goindwal Sahib, but according to Mahant Sadhu Singh, it was revealed at Kurukshetra. However, other sources do not mention any other specific locations.
- Which people came to Guru Amardas Sahib, and when did they come?
- Who were Pandit Sahu Ram and Pandit Ram Chand, and where were they from?
In this way, the context of the revelation of this composition is clear. However, we do not have conclusive information on the time or place of its revelation and as such this topic requires further research.
