Savaiye (Mukhbakya Mahala 5– I)

Guru Arjan Sahib

Under the title ‘Savaiye Sri Mukhbakya,’ a collection of twenty savaiyas composed in two sets is recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib. These are revelations by Guru Arjan Sahib. In the first set of nine savaiyas, Guru Arjan Sahib sings praise of IkOankar (the Divine) and emphasizes IkOankar’s all-pervasiveness. He describes the Nam of IkOankar as ambrosial nectar—through its remembrance, all joys are attained, and transgressions are removed. Those whom IkOankar blesses are graced with the company of virtuous beings, where the essence of Nam is savored, leading to contentment and fulfillment. These savaiyas also express deep devotion and reverence for Guru Nanak Sahib. Guru Arjan Sahib underscores the oneness between IkOankar and Guru Nanak Sahib, expressing complete devotion to him. In the end, Guru Nanak Sahib is portrayed as the radiant light that dispels the darkness of ignorance in this age of Kaliyug.
